Privacy Policy

Effective July 8, 2026

Your photos never leave your phone. Here is exactly what that means.

Lapse ("we", "our", or "the app") is a timelapse photo animation app developed by Minalogic. This privacy policy explains how we handle your data.

Data Collection

We do not collect, store, or transmit your photos. All photo processing, face detection, and timelapse creation happens entirely on your device. Your images never leave your phone.

Camera Access

Lapse requests camera access solely to let you take new photos for your timelapse projects. Camera images are stored locally on your device and are never uploaded to any server.

Photo Library Access

Lapse uses your device's system photo picker so you can import existing photos into your timelapse projects — the app itself holds no photo-library permission and can only see the photos you explicitly pick. Selected photos are processed locally and are never transmitted externally.

Google Photos Import (optional)

You can optionally connect Google Photos to import photos. If you choose this, you sign in with your Google account and pick photos inside Google Photos; Lapse then downloads only the photos you picked to your device, one time, to build your timelapse. Lapse never uploads anything to Google Photos, never sees photos you didn't pick, and cannot browse your library. Access is read-only, per-selection, and expires automatically; you can revoke it any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Photos imported from Google Photos are stored only inside your local project on your device; deleting the project (or uninstalling the app) permanently deletes them and any face data derived from them — Lapse keeps no copy anywhere else.

Lapse's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements: photos obtained via Google Photos are used solely to provide the timelapse features you see in the app — never for advertising, never sold, never shared, and never used to train generalized models.

Face Detection

Lapse detects and aligns faces using on-device AI. Face detection, recognition, and the numeric face descriptors used to align your subject across frames are computed and stored locally on your device only — they are never uploaded to any server, and there is no backend that could receive them. They exist only to align the photos within your own projects.

Analytics

We use Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, and Performance Monitoring) and Sentry to collect anonymous usage statistics, crash reports, and performance metrics. This data helps us improve app stability and performance. It does not include any of your photos or personal content. You can turn this off any time in the app under Settings › Privacy › Share usage data; opting out stops collection immediately and takes effect without restarting the app.

Data Collected by Analytics

  • Anonymous usage events (e.g., app launches, feature usage counts)
  • Crash reports with device model, OS version, and stack traces
  • Performance metrics (app startup time, network latency)

Purchases

In-app purchases and subscriptions are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play and managed through RevenueCat. Lapse identifies your purchases with an anonymous app-user ID — we do not send your name, email, or any personal identifier. Payment details are handled by the app stores, not by Lapse.

Accounts & Backend

Lapse has no user accounts and no content backend. Google sign-in, when used, exists only to obtain a temporary token for the Google Photos picker. Your projects, photos, and face data live on your device.

Third-Party Services

Children's Privacy

Lapse is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
